Automotive Service Manager

This position reports to the General Manager and is responsible for the timely completion of automotive repair activities. This includes determining scope of work, obtaining any necessary customer needs assessment, and ensuring projects are completed in an efficient and timely manner.


  • Works with customers or service writer to obtain descriptions of vehicle problems, and to discuss work to be performed and future repair requirements.
  • Manage the service department while supervising service writers and technicians to ensure they meet the service objectives and expectations of the role.
  • Test-drive vehicles, and test components and systems, using diagnostic tools and special service equipment.
  • Perform quality inspections of vehicle repairs prior to returning the vehicle to the customer
  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair vehicle automotive systems including engine, transmission, electrical, steering, suspension, braking, air conditioning, etc.
  • Communicate directly with the service writer and service technicians so that customers can be informed if any additional service is needed. Providing an estimate of time needed for additional repairs.


  • Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of Service Management experience in a service department.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of automotive service technician experience required.
  • National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification preferred.
  • Process skills with a proven ability to prioritize and manage individual workload in a high-pressure environment and to demonstrate a sense of urgency as necessary to meet deadlines.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record required.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
