The F-150 vs. the Chevy Silverado 1500

One reason the F-150 is so popular is that it offers Iowa buyers more engine choices than any competitor including the Chevy Silverado 1500. The F-150 has seven different engines compared with just four for the Chevy Silverado 1500. For example, the F-150 offers a 3.5-liter V6 with 400 horsepower, a 3.5-liter hybrid V6 with 430 horsepower, a 5.0-liter V8 that gives you 400 horsepower and a 2.7-liter V6 that delivers 325 horsepower.

What's more, the F-150 lets you move up to a 3.0-liter Power Stroke® V6 diesel engine along with a 3.5-liter high-output V6 that comes through with 450 horsepower. The Chevy Silverado 1500 starts with a smaller, less powerful 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine with 310 horsepower and gives you only limited engine options above that level. The Chevy diesel engine gives you only 305 horsepower compared with a muscular 450 horsepower with the F-150's diesel.

The Ford F-150 vs. the Ram 1500

The newest edition of the Ford F-150 full-size pickup offers first-rate performance with its twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine, providing 410 pound-feet of torque and 325 horsepower. The F-150 with that engine can provide Coon Rapids drivers with a towing capacity of up to 13,500 pounds. By comparison, the Ram 1500 with the standard 3.6-liter V6 doesn't match the standard engine in the Ford F-150, giving you only 305 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. The maximum towing capacity in the Ram 1500 is only 12,750 pounds in 2024 models and 11,580 pounds for 2025 trucks - both well short of the Ford F-150.

The Ford F-150 also has some meaningful advantages over the Ram 1500 when you look at the interiors. The F-150 has a sizeable 12-inch touchscreen and offers an available mobile work surface. The Ram 1500 base model has a much smaller 8.4-inch touch screen and doesn't offer a mobile interior work surface.

The Ford F-150 vs. the GMC Sierra 1500

The base engine in the Ford F-150 is a 2.7-liter EcoBoost® V6 that gives you more horsepower than the GMC Sierra 1500's TurboMax. The F-150 wins again with its 5.0-liter V8 engine that delivers 400 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. That stacks up well against the GMC Sierra 1500's 5.3-liter engine with just 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque.

At the top end, the Ford F-150 with the twin-turbo V6 gives Iowa drivers a maximum towing capacity of 13,500 pounds compared with only 13,100 pounds in the GMC Sierra 1500.
